Yamazaki's new koi house
Many of you will have bought koi from Yamazaki Koi Farm, either directly or via ordering in Spring. Well for those of you who know Manabu Yamazaki, you may be interested to know he has been more busy this summer than usual.
Before the start of each buying season the Koibito Japan team usually visits breeders to check out what fish are on offer, and also just to catch up and have a cup of coffee, or green tea. The simple act of "Aisatsu", or greeting, in Japan is as important as a well controlled bow...
While heading around breeders in Kawaguchi, we noticed yet another shiny new koi house in the distance. At first we though that Manabu had a new rival right next door, but it turns out that the new house is part of an expansion happening at Yamazaki Koi Farm.
After speaking to Manabu, he explained that the new house will be used mainly for holding sold fish, and for pre-shipment preparation of fish, and there may also be some sale fish there during the busiest times. The whole building holds a total of 150 tonnes of water in a total of 5 ponds. Over the busy summer breeding season, Manabu was not only selecting fish almost every day, but in his spare time, he was also putting the finishing touches to his new koi house!
When Koibito Japan caught up with him, as he was installing filter mats into the huge filters running round the side of the ponds. The concrete in the entrance of the house was just dry enough to walk on, and the outside concreting hadn't been completed yet. Manabu told Koibito Japan that in the future he would like to be able to make another house for holding fish that customers want to leave in Japan...We look forward to seeing the this newly made house in full operation, full with koi, and customers too!
