Momotaro Auction - February 3rd 2009 - PhotosI am sure most of you are wondering what happened at the Momotaro Auction today...so without further ado, here is the run down of the day's events...

The auction started as it usually does at 10 am, the only difference today being the huge amount of people present. Foreigners dominated the action for most of the day, with some famous Japanese buyers also getting in on the action when it mattered!

Momotaro broke it's previous auction record for highest amount bid on one Nisai with one today being sold for 5.2 million yen!!! The bidding for this fish actually started at 2 million yen...bidding was fast and furious, with the winner coming in at the end and taking the action away from the other bidders!

Other information to let you know is the AVERAGE prices for the fish sold...Tosai averaged out at 247,000 yen each; Nisai were at an average of 473,000 yen each; Sansai were an average of 487,000 each...in total around 200 fish were auctioned today. Tosai from the following bloodline were auctioned off: Mako, Momoko, Ryu, Bentley, Izumoryu (2008 ZNA Champion 1m 6cm Sanke) along with others too...

Please enjoy the photos from today, and make sure you lookout for information about the next Momotaro auction which is expected to be held sometime in March...
