Marujyu Koi Farm - 3sai Showa Harvest 2011
Koibito Japan was at the main 3sai Showa harvest for Marujyu Koi Farm this morning, and had the chance to take plenty of photos and also some videos for you to enjoy.
The mudpond which was harvested contained 35-40 pcs of Showa from Marujyu Koi Farm. As you can see from the photos and videos, most of the koi coming out of the pond where high class, had developed very strong body lines, and put plenty of meat on during the summer months. The guys at Marujyu mentioned to me that they will now work on getting the koi's into shape over winter, to slim them down, and make sure they also work on their skin conditioning.
After speaking to the Tanaka boys it became clear that most of these koi are still in a semi-experimental parent set group which they have been experimenting with for some years now, slowly perfecting their culling, and also developing the bloodline to create just the right sort of Showa they are looking for. They have done well so far, as the results from the photos shows, with breeding strong bodied koi, which have very durable skin. The thing which was of most interest was how the beni on these koi really is very changeable, with some koi having beni which looked extremely weak as Nisai, and has matured as the koi has become 3sai, and also others which as 3sai still have a lot of developing to do. This particular Marujyu showa bloodline is definitely one to watch for the future...
